SUPPORTED CHARITIES

ANDREW MANNING-COX

HIGH SHERIFF OF WORCESTERSHIRE 2022-23

I have lived in the County for the past 42 years.

I am married with 2 grown up children, Octavia and Verity. Both are at University.

A graduate of the University of Cambridge with a first class degree in law, I trained and qualified as a solicitor with Wragge & Co LLP in Birmingham and London, which following a merger, became the international law firm Gowling WLG UK LLP in 2016, with 19 offices worldwide. I became a partner in 1985 and retired 4 years ago.  I am an Arbitrator, a Solicitor Advocate, a Mediator and a Notary Public. Throughout my career I specialised in litigation in the High Court and international arbitration, latterly as senior litigation partner.

I have acted as a non-executive director in a number of County businesses and institutions. I have also mentored tech businesses and helped them grow.

Since my retirement I chair Sanctuary Group, headquartered in Worcester, and with more than 13000 employees nationwide. I am a NED on the Board of Thursfields Limited, the regional law firm with 5 offices in Worcestershire and beyond, and on the Board of Worcestershire County Cricket Club.  I am a Worcestershire Ambassador.

I also chair Hereford Enterprise Zone and am a NED on the Board of the Marches LEP.

I am honoured to be invited to take up the ancient office of High Sheriff of Worcestershire. The County is dear to my and my family’s heart, has achieved so much over its long history and has so much potential to continue that trajectory and emerge successfully from the challenges the nation as a whole has faced over the last 2 years. I look forward to playing my part in my year of office and immersing myself in all the valuable work happening across the County, from supporting the judiciary, emergency services, prison and probation services, to the NHS, to shining a spotlight on the wonderful work our charities are doing, often largely unsung.

The pandemic has hit all of us hard in the UK.  Worcestershire is no exception. It is my hope that my term of office will mark a moment where we emerge into the sunlight and recognise again what a wonderful part of the world we live in and with so many great people and institutions going the extra mile to help their fellow human beings – the unsung heroes and heroines. If I can help in some small way in that process I will be happy.

During my year I will be raising funds for the High Sheriff’s Fund, a charity within the Worcestershire Community Foundation which does so much to support families and individuals across the county. Please click on this link for more information https://www.worcscf.org.uk/
